The Harlem Renaissance was a period between the end of World War I and the Great Depression that was a birth of African American culture in the arts. Before this movement, the rich heritage of African American people was not prominently displayed in the American Arts.

Because of the Harlem Renaissance, African Americans began to receive the well deserved recognition for their achievements.
